Overview
Liposuction is a sculpting procedure — its purpose is to refine proportions and address fat deposits that persist despite diet and exercise, not to serve as a weight-loss tool. Dr. Fern performs high-definition and traditional liposuction of the abdomen, flanks, hips, thighs, arms, back, and face — using tumescent technique and power-assisted or ultrasound-assisted devices where appropriate. Multiple areas are frequently treated in a single session.
Are You a Good Candidate?
Ideal candidates for liposuction typically present with one or more of the following:
- Localized fat deposits disproportionate to your overall body
- Good skin elasticity (skin that will contract after fat removal)
- Stable, healthy weight
- Realistic expectations — liposuction improves proportion, not overall weight
The Procedure
Dr. Fern's approach to liposuction proceeds through the following steps:
- Tumescent solution infiltrated to minimize bleeding and improve fat removal
- Small access incisions placed in inconspicuous locations
- Cannula used to loosen and aspirate fat in multiple planes
- Final pass to smooth contour and feather transitions
- Compression garment applied immediately in the OR
Recovery
Compression garment worn for 4–6 weeks. Bruising and swelling are expected for 2–4 weeks. Contouring results become visible as swelling resolves — typically 60–90% at 6 weeks, final result at 6 months.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does fat come back after liposuction?
The fat cells removed are gone permanently. However, remaining fat cells can enlarge with significant weight gain. Maintaining a stable weight preserves results long-term.
What is high-definition liposuction?
High-definition lipo selectively removes fat from around underlying muscles to accentuate natural musculature — creating visible definition in the abdomen, flanks, and chest in appropriate candidates.
Can I treat multiple areas at once?
Yes — treating several areas in a single session is common and efficient. Volume limits apply for safety; Dr. Fern will advise if staging is required.
